On Monday the Lady Gaga wearing knitwear designer Craig Lawrence was showcasing his SS13 collection in the Portico rooms in Somerset House. I didn’t actually have an invite, but I had an empty space between the Christian Blanken SS13 and DAS Collection SS13 shows and I knew this one would be fantastic to snap.
The very nice lady holding the guest-list said it would be fine to come in and to be honest, I think I was very lucky as the room was jam packed!
True to form the collection was eye catching and well… not something I would nip to the shops in, but beautiful to photograph. The theme was aquatic with inspiration taken from phosphorescent plankton that glows in the ocean at night. the entire collection was silver and white and the stretched knitwear was to imitate sponge and urchins.
Waists were cinched in with perspex bumbags – or fanny packs for readers across the pond (always makes me giggle). In the finale the lights went down and UV lights beamed down on the models to show off the fiber optic woven into the knitwear. Being the novice catwalk photographer that I am, I fumbled with my camera settings and didn’t get the shot. I must learn to be prepared for anything.
That’s it for my catwalk coverage and I am going to have a bit of a moan now. I would have liked to include Pam Hogg on here as it was quite a big speaking point for LFW (naked Alice Dellal) – but even with a ticket, I couldn’t get in. in fact hardly anyone with a standing ticket did!
Outside the venue was absolute ciaos. Of course brands have to oversubscribe their shows to insure a packed out venue, but either this was hideously oversubscribed – using people and wasting their time (I waited an hour!), or practically everyone who was invited turned up. Or my guess, people with seated tickets printed off more than one. There wasn’t a guest list in sight and yes the tickets were just email print offs! annoying, I was really looking forward to seeing her collection, she is dubbed as the next Vivienne Westwood. waaaaa!
