Bora Aksu Autumn/Winter 2013-14

Bora Aksu AW13 was the first show I attended on Friday. The Zoe Jordan show was beforehand, but I only managed to get into the cinema room (where the standing guests at the back of the queue get ushered to if there is an over spill). So this was the first one I photographed.  I took about 200 photographs, so rather than bombarding you (as beautiful as the collection is) here is my edit.

There was definitely a 20s art deco vibe with the collection.  Tight corsets, flapper dresses, beaded headpieces, sheer and lace detailing.  Apparently the iconic 1967 Diane Arbus photo of  Identical Twins was a huge source of inspiration.

“Diane Arbus’ photo of identical twins has always fascinated me but it really struck a chord for this collection. The way the twins are dressed and the energy they give off in this iconic photo has become a real inspiration source.”

To be honest I couldn’t see any sort of reference apart from some of the collars. Maybe it is just me? Maybe he literally meant the energy of the twins in the photograph would be replicated by the models in the show.

Bora Aksu’s signature style of mixing dark with romantic was certainly apparent in this collection.  I loved the contrast in fabrics.  There was tight pencil skirts underneath a sheer floaty midi skirt, or a tight leather dress with a sheer cape and leather detailing.

All in all personally I loved it! When you can imagine yourself wearing stuff that is coming down the catwalk, then you definitely know you do!

Keep in touch!

Hi Kylie, such beautifully captured photos…well done. I have been appreciating Bora Aksu’s intricate creations for a few seasons now, and I agree with you, very wearable (and covetable!) xo
