Orla Kiely SS14 was the collection I was most looking forward to see this London Fashion Week. I prefer presentations over catwalks anyway; from a photography point of view they are more visual. Orla Kiely always puts on the most creative presentation at LFW and with the beautiful clothing my inner photographer cannot contain herself.
The presentation was held in the same place as the typing pool AW13 collection – Elms Gallery with the tall winding stairs. The difference this time being the huge attendance. The presentation goes around in a loop over a couple of hours. Both times I attended Orla Kiely I went along for the final showing. The AW13 collection I just walked in.. this time I joined the back of a very large queue. The brand is obviously growing more popular each season.
The presentation began with the song “the lion sleeps tonight” and in walked chic safari explorers. The models playfully took photos of artifacts and viewing the distant views through binoculars. They made themselves at home in the ‘campsite’ playing records and painting.
The collection is super cute like always. Animal prints and motifs were a running theme including a two piece giraffe print shorts suit and lion motif t-shirt. Orla Kiely have also collaborated with Clarks for SS14 footwear. The six styles include a high block heeled platform sandal, mid block heeled sandals (my favourite and the ones photographed with the record player above), a mid wedge, a slingback with oversized buckle detail and a slingback mary-jane.
What do you think of the presentation and the collection?
