You can’t beat Monsoon when it comes to children’s partywear. Eva refuses to wear pretty dresses at the moment so I was delighted when she told me how much she loved this pale blue sparkle dress* (mainly because it was blue). Its quite girly and traditional so I really wanted to photograph her with a grand background. The lovely people at Polesden Lacey said it would be ok to take some snaps there.
I struggled a bit with the lighting as it’s quite dark in the house. Also I only had 15 minutes to get as many photo’s as possible as Luke had to head off and he was designated driver. As little children move a lot I couldn’t have too much of a slow shutter speed. I had to chuck up the ISO which I hate as it makes the photo look noisy. It’s times like this I wished I had invested in a good light ring. You are not allowed flash photography in the house. Although I hate photo’s used with flash.
Eva was very good at having her photo taken, I was worried as it can go one of two ways. Here she is having a silly moment:
This was the 1st weekend open for the Polesden Lacey Christmas event. The house was beautifully decorated and the staff were all dressed up in old fashioned costume. In one of the rooms Eva got to write a letter to Father Christmas and post it in the letter box. Apparently she will be receiving a letter back. There was a sack full of old fashioned wooden toys that Eva got to rummage around in. She pulled out a spinning top.
I absolutely love visiting Polesden Lacey, I wish I had some more time to photograph the rooms and grounds, the view is breathtaking. It is literally a 5 minute drive for me in Surrey, but worth venturing from further afield. Especially if you want to feel all festive on the build-up to Christmas. The house is open 11am-4pm on the weekends. Plus they have other events on the website.
More on the Monsoon dress, how beautiful is it? I am so pleased Eva would wear it I was scared she wouldn’t. She is very much into jeans, shirts and baggy jumpers at the moment. She also has a green two piece that I will be photographing this week as part of a mother/daughter partywear style post. Keep your eyes peeled for that. Check out the entire Monsoon Kids Occasion wear online. Eva’s dress is an online exclusive so you won’t find it in the shops.
