South Africa! – Rietvlei Game Reserve

Howzit! (That’s what the saffas say). I am currently in sunny South Africa enjoying some well needed vitamin D – look how translucent we are!  I am married to a Saffa and 5 years together and 1 Eva, amazingly I have never travelled here before. We are staying with Luke’s family for the 2 weeks that we are here and works out a lot cheaper . We have more money to go out and explore, go shopping and all that good stuff. I made a beeline for the MAC store to stock up on some goodies. The price worked out about 3 quarters the cost of the UK.

I going to be blogging the stuff that I enjoy while I am still here and it’s fresh in my mind. Yesterday we went on a mini safari at the Rietvlei Game Reserve. Luke’s dad gave us a teeny weeny little car to use for the 2 weeks that we are here and it really was put through its paces on the dirt roads. I felt like a proper explorer with my zoom lens hanging out of the window.

The Rietvlei Game Reserve didn’t have any Lions, Giraffes or elephants wandering about which are the main things I want to see while I am here. They do have Rhinos and hippos which after a couple of hours of eyes peeled we didn’t see unfortunately. I am definitely going to make it my mission to see the big 5 in the bush. We got close to the Ostrich and a group of Zebra were practically in our car. How cute is the baby one? It seemed very young, the entire herd were very protective of it.

We have a few things planned already. Tomorrow we are heading into Pretoria, at some point next week we will go to Johannesburg. I have booked a lion tour were we visit a lion sanctuary for half a day and go for a walk with the teenage lions and sit in a garden and cuddle with the cubs.
